Iverson receives an offer to play in China
After not receiving any offer from an NBA team, Allen Iverson might join Stephon Marbury in China.
Iverson’s personal manager Gary Moore said that the 2001 Most Valuable Player might go overseas after failing to find a home in the NBA with barely two weeks left before training camp.
"We're very astonished, to say the least, that not one team has contacted us with any interest," Moore said. "I just don't understand it."
Moore said that they are now working out a deal with a Chinese Team, which expressed a “legitimate interest” in acquiring the former NBA scoring champion, but he refused to give further details until Iverson makes his final decision.
The 35-year old guard inked a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies last season, but his stint was cut short after complaining about his playing time. This paved way to an emotional return to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he spent 11 seasons before being traded to the Denver Nuggets during the 2006-2007 season.
The 14-year NBA veteran averaged 13.9 points and 4.1 assists in his 25 games with Philadelphia, before he took a leave of absence to deal with family issues.
"What has Allen Iverson done to not warrant interest in him?" said Moore, who also added that the Chinese Team started to pursue Iverson last month.
The 1996 Number One Overall Pick, who is currently 17th on the NBA career scoring leaders with his 24,368 points, was a four-time NBA scoring champion and he led Philadelphia to the 2001 NBA Finals.
During his prime, Iverson was nearly unstoppable, but his career was hampered by knee injuries and his on and off the court troubles with his coaches like Larry Brown, while the veteran coach was still with Philadelphia.
Last season, he publicly criticized the Memphis Grizzlies Organization for not utilizing his talent, which led to an ugly end of his stint with the team.
Despite not playing competitive basketball for several months, Moore believes that Iverson’s career is not yet done and is actually working out in Atlanta, hoping that he will have another opportunity to showcase his skills on the playing court.
