Iveta Benesova hammers Casey Dellacqua to qualify for the main round – Dubai Duty Free Champ. 2012
World number 45, Iveta Benesova, stepped ahead into the main rounds of the Dubai Duty Free Championships at the expense of the 27-years-old Aussie rival, Casey Dellacqua. A battle of 73 minutes ended in the favour of the
Czech in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.
The opening set was a disaster for the Aussie who couldn’t handle the experienced and superior game play of the Czech. Benesova broke her opponent’s serve in the third game for the first time and registered a comfortable
two games lead with scores progressing to 3-1.
There was no way out for the Aussie who was under the cosh; failing to register any success throughout the opening set after that initial outbreak. Three breakthroughs in succession for the Czech confirmed her first set triumph
with her competitor failing to register any considerable achievement for six games in a row.
An impressive opening set outburst helped the Czech to force her opponent on the back foot. She started the second set with a successful serve game and registered the first breakthrough of the set in the following game. It
was getting pretty ominous for the Aussie but she declined to stay back and accept the defeat; she broke serve in the third game and a swap of breakpoints in the following two games helped her to level the scores of 3-3.
Both players capitalized on their serves and the see-saw battle continued for quite some time with scores ticking over to 5-5. It seemed like the tie-breaker round would be required to decide the set but Dellacqua made it
easier for her opponent with a couple of successive double-faults in the twelfth game that gifted another breakpoint to the Czech.
The game was over with the deserving participant moving ahead to the main round of the contest. Earlier in the day, the second seed Belarusian tennis ace, Petra Kvitova, pulled out of the tournament due to illness. The first
encounter of the main round was dominated by the Israeli contest, Shahar Peer, who dislodged the Omani wildcard entrant, Fatma Al Nabhani, to book a berth in the second round.
