Iveta Benesova ousts Maria-Elena Camerin in second round qualies - Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2012
World number 44, Iveta Benesova, overpowered the Italian athlete, Maria-Elena Camerin, to reach the final round of the qualifying draw at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, contested in Stuttgart, Germany. She clinched the win in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, barely taking 68 minutes on the Red clay court.
A swap of breakpoints boosted the tempo of the match from the start. Both players quickly settled into the scenario and bagged the following respective serve games to push the scores at 2-2. Camerin dropped another serve game on her way and fell to a trail of 2-4.
The 30-year-old Italian replied immediately with a breakthrough but couldn’t hold her serve that sustained the two game lead of her competitor. Benesova comfortably held her final serve game of the opening set to stamp her authority in the match.
Both players held their respective serves to start the second set but the inferior ranked Italian couldn’t repeat the phenomenon and went down to a trail of 1-2. The Czech starlet consolidated the lead with a serve hold and thumped her opponent on the back foot. With serve holds at both ends scores further moved on to 4-2.
It was the Czech contestant who grabbed the second breakthrough of the set and posted a resounding lead of 5-2. She successfully served for the match and booked her place in the first round of the tournament.
Exactly 100 points were contested between the two players and the Czech 29-year-old starlet bagged 58 off them. She smashed an ace and converted five of her allotted right breakthrough chances. Her opponent also had six opportunities to break serve but she could only win two of them that was the major reason for her loss in the match. It was a good contest overall with Benesova leading the show with her superior game play and dashing powerful stroke making.
The tournament draws will be updated on Monday night and Benesova will get to know her next rival. At the moment, the possible competitors she can face are the seventh seed French, Marion Bartoli, Italian doubles specialist, Flavia Pennetta, or another successful qualifier.
Benesova will face off against Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan in the qualifying competition on Monday. The Uzbek competitor was successful against the sixth seed Czech contender, Barbora Záhlavova-Strycova, in the second round qualies.
