Iveta Benesova trounces Andreja Klepac in the opening qualifier - Family Circle Cup 2012
World number 44, Iveta Benesova of Czech Republic, survived a scare against the 365th ranked Slovenian contestant, Andreja Klepac, in the first qualifier battle of Family Circle Cup in Charleston, USA. She sneaked a
win 6-4, 3-6, 6-1; after dropping the second set in the match.
The top seeded player smashed an ace in the opening set and converted three out of four breakpoints allotted to her. Her opponent was also very smart and didn’t eased pressure despite losing serve games. Klepac converted two of
her four breakpoints; the conversion ratio probably led to the downfall of the Slovenian who deserved a better score line at the end.
It was nothing at all between the two players; a difference of three points at the end separated the winner from the runners-up in the opening set. Klepac bagged 29 points but not before her opponent had snatched the set away from
her by winning 32 points in total.
An exchange of breakpoints in the second set was followed by a series of serve holds at both ends. Scores tickled over to 3-3 in the second set before the Slovenian opponent broke the shackles and registered the second breakthrough
of the set.
She led the scores 4-3 and consolidate her position with a serve hold. Another breakthrough in the final game of the second set, confirmed a thumping triumph for the Slovenian who deserved another chance to qualify for next round.
The Slovenian bagged 30 points compared to just 20 of her opponent. A huge difference of ten points in the second set clearly shows the level of domination by the 26-years-old against the Czech veteran who was a made to look a
mere spectator.
However, a dismal performance in the second set was majestically covered up with a cracking display in the final battle. Benesova commenced the last set encounter with a serve break and consolidated it with a serve hold. She went
on to take a lead of 5-1 courtesy to another breakthrough in the meantime. Klepac failed to absorb pressure and dropped third game on her serve in the final set that confirmed the triumph for the Czech.
Benesova takes on her compatriot Kristyna Pliskova in a battle for a main round spot.
