The out-of-favour Bayern Munich striker has hinted on extending his contract at the club after receiving praise from manager Jupp Heynckes.
Olic has had an injury plagued season this term and has fallen down the pecking order with Mario Gomez performing sensationally well and Nils Petersen showing glimpses of class. The striker has been serving the role of a substitute
for the majority of this season so far, but foresees a bright second-half of the season.
The Croatian international has impressed his manager with his match-winning performance in the friendly game against Egyptian club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Ahly-c38288, on Saturday, January 7. He scored the winning goal for his side in injury time to set-up
a 2-1 win for the Bavarian giants.
Olic had to step in for injured Mario Gomez, who suffered a foot injury 11 minutes into the game. After receiving praise following his performance on Saturday, Olic is likely to stay at the club especially having won his manager’s
trust ahead of the start of this season’s second-half.
Heynckes believes that the Croatian could easily fill in for Gomez in case there is an injury to the 26-year-old at some stage of the competition. The manager added that Bayern will definitely consider offering Olic a renewed contract
at the Allianz-Arena with the attacker’s current deal set to expire at the end of this term.
While talking to Bild.com, the tactician further mentioned:
"From my point of view, not much stands in the way [of an extension]. Because he has something that few have. What distinguishes him is that for 90 minutes he is on the move, he fights hard and is ambitious. I am impressed that
after a long injury he is back in good physical shape.”
“I have great confidence in Olic and don't doubt that he can jump in when Gomez goes down," Jupp Heynckes concluded.
Olic previously expressed his desire to part ways with the Bavarian club during the ongoing January transfer window due to the lack of playing opportunities. However, the Croatian now wishes to stay at the club after words of encouragement
from his boss.
