Ivica Olic could leave Bayern Munich in January - Bundesliga News
Having spent enough time on the sidelines and recently making a return from injury, Bayern Munich striker, Ivica Olic, could be on his way out of the club during the upcoming January transfer window.
The player’s agent revealed that clubs from Spain and Italy have shown interest in Olic, who has run out of favours at Allianz-Arena.
Olic has consistently been benched by his manager Jupp Heynckes, despite recovering from his long term injury. Mario Gomez usually plays as a lone striker with Olic, while the newly recruited Nils Petersen watches from the bench.
The striker previously had expressed frustration at his limited opportunities, threatening to quit the club at the end of this campaign.
Taking advantage of the player’s unsettled situation at Bayern, several La Liga and Serie A outfits have shown interest in the player’s acquisition.
It is believed that the likes of Villarreal and Lazio might come up with an official bid for the Croatian international during the upcoming January transfer window.
However, Olic has declined transfer talks and wishes to stay at Allianz-Arena for the rest of his career. He also hoped to get regular playing chances in future alongside Gomez.
His agent, Gordon Stipic, believes that Olic might consider making a move elsewhere if Bayern officials fail to confirm their intentions regarding Olic’s retention.
While talking to Goal.com, he further enthused:
"He has expressed his desire to play more, but he has not said he will leave Bayern. We are in talks with the club. I do not rule out that he can extend his contract, which expires in 2012. I have spoken with some Italian clubs, but I cannot say which ones.
There is the possibility that he will play in a league other than the Bundesliga. In the coming weeks, things will be more clear."
Olic landed at Allianz-Arena in 2009 and so far has made seven league appearances this season, scoring a solitary goal during the process.
The striker would be hoping to hear something better from the Bavarian officials before the upcoming transfer window closes or he would be forced to part ways with Jupp Heynckes’ men.
