Ivo Klec stomps over Gastao Elias in round two – Orange Open Guadeloupe 2012 CH
Slovakian qualifier, Ivo Klec, eased past the Portuguese rising star, Gastao Elias, in straight sets at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Thursday. He joggled up a 6-3, 6-2 success against the 21-year-old to book a place in the last eight at this hard court
event taking place in Le Gosier, Guadeloupe.
The German resident, Klec, cashed in all three break chances to seal the match with a straight set victory. After earning the spotlight in 78 minutes, Klec cruised into the quarter-finals at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour
event.
Ranked 489th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Klec thundered into the Guadeloupian hard courts and reeled off the opening three games in a row. He cashed in the lone break opportunity in the second game to go 3-0 up. The Slovak
then brushed off all four breakpoints he faced to keep remaining serves, subsequently sealing the opener with a 6-3 win.
Klec kept momentum rolling into the following set and earned the coveted break in the opening game to jump to a 2-0 lead. He maintained his intensity and after capitalising on his second break chance in the fifth game, the Slovak extended his lead to 5-1.
Klec then kept his serve once more and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
Summing up the Slovak’s skills, Klec manipulated a better first serve share of 59 per cent in contrast with the Portuguese’s 50 per cent and amazingly marked 30 out of 43 points on it.
Next in line for Klec is the top seed, Olivier Rochus, who overpowered Josselin Ouanna in straight sets to set-up this match. The Belgian lost his serve once but capitalised on two out of six break chances to formulate a 7-6(7), 7-5 score line in one hour
and 44 minutes. He produced a better first serve share and clinched 37 out of 47 points on it.
The fifth seeded Russian, Igor Kunitsyn, will also be featuring in the final eight. The world number 90 showed tremendous abilities to outclass France’s Gianni Mina in straight sets in almost one and half hour.
