Ivory Latta, Kara Lawson, Kayla Pederse: Top WNBA performers from 12th June games
Only one game took place in the Women National Basketball Association (WNBA) on June 12, 2011. It was the day of the heavyweights as Connecticut Sun took on the Tulsa Shock. Tina Charles stole the show on the night as Sun beat
the Shock 90-79 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Leading by seven points at halftime, Connecticut maintained their lead in the second half of the game to walk away with their second victory of the current season.
Here is a detailed insight into some of the most outstanding performances from the game:
Tina Charles
Tina Charles scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to marshal the Sun to their second victory of this season. The 22-year-old centre was terrific from the field and canned 8-for-14 in 28 plus minutes. Charles
scored 15 of her points in the first half of the game as Connecticut held a 49-42 lead at halftime.
Kara Lawson
Kara Lawson scooped out 17 points and grabbed five rebounds and three assists in nearly 28 minutes of play. The shooting guard erupted with a 5-for-9 shooting from the field and 6-for-7 from free throw line.
Asjha Jones
Asjha Jones racked up 16 points for the Sun. The 30-year-old forward scored 10 of her points in the first two quarters of the game and finished the night with an 8-for-12 effort from the field.
Renee Montgomery
Renee Montgomery was the fourth Connecticut player to land double figures on the night. The veteran guard punctuated 15 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and one steal in the win. Montgomery also pinned two three-pointers
in over 33 minutes play.
Ivory Latta
Ivory Latta led all scorers with 26 points, shooting at a fantastic 11-for-14 from the field in 35 plus minutes. The 26-year-old  guard also pinned two consecutive three-pointers with 04:01 to go in the final quarter to cut the
cut Tulsa’s deficit to six points, 79-73.
Kayla Pedersen
Kayla Pedersen played one of the best games of her WNBA career. The Shock forward scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed a game team-high eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
The 6-foot-4 had a 4-for-9 shooting from the field and netted all seven shots from the free throw line. The player is averaging 9.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game so far this season.
Liz Cambage
Rookie centre Liz Cambage contributed 16 points for Tulsa. Cambage netted 4-of-4 free throws and shot 6-for-11 from the field. The 19-year-old left the game with 6:51 to go in the fourthdue to a collision with her teammate Tiffany
Jackson.
