  1. Hi

this is Sophie and I am a wedding planner.

Should you plan a traditional wedding, do wear the white.

If you like new style, going with the new age, wear the ivory. Me personally as a planner recommend the brides to choose the style not the color!

Ivory is more and more popular and usually it looks better on the darker skin color ladies.

    Good luck to you!

  2. IVORY!

    You said it yourself.

You love it & it compliments your skin tone.

Be open minded & congrats in advance!

  3. Whatever looks good on you - and from your question, it seems ivory is the answer. There's absolutely nothing wrong with ivory (or any other color) wedding gown. The dress I got married in was made of pale-green brocade with black velvet trim and gold accents.

  4. I looked sickly when I tried a white gown, and no amount of make up could fix it. White tends to be stark and it makes a lot of people look washed out- that's why a lot of places who do make up tend to do clown-like make up.

I opted for champagne instead- it complemented my skin tone, and I looked radiant instead of malnourished and sick.

  5. ivory! definitly. white may be traditional, but ivory has become more popular these days and is perfectly acceptable.

im pretty sure it doesnt mean unpure either lol

and if u fell in love with it then go for. its your wedding, and u should feel beautiful ^-^

  6. Like you I think it depends on the dress and what you feel and look good in. If you look good in ivory, then wear ivory, and ignore all of the naysayers. Yes, it is 2008, but I would be stupid to pass up a beautiful ivory dress, just because tradition saids that I should wear white. Congrats.

  7. I always thought white too! But then I tried on champagne and fell in love like you did with ivory!

I would go with what looks best and if its ivory than it's ivory. The color of the dress doesn't mean nearly as much as the vows you're taking ( =

    Good luck!

  8. My dress is ivory.  Like others have mentioned, I always assumed it was another shade of white and didn't mean unpure.  Going with ivory has just meant there was fewer options as far as matching as far as choosing things like the headwear, flower girl basket, and the ring bearer pillow.  But almost every place I looked had options in ivory for everything even when there was no other color besides white so I'm sure it's a perfectly acceptable wedding color.

  9. I just went to a wedding where the bride wore ivory, but the table linens at the reception where WHITE WHITE, and it really really looked bad!

Keep everything in mind when you choose!

White is easy to match, ivory is a bit harder,

  10. ivory is a shade of white. its like egg white diamond white, ivory is a "yellow" white. it's still white. \ivory is fast becoming a huge wedding colour. no one wants to wear stark white anymore. I work in a shoe store and 9/10 brides that coem in to get shoes their dress is ivory.there are many opinions about what ivory is.

White is gorgeous but it's very stark, and ivory is just alittle more elegant then white.

as much as i would love a white dress it seems more and more dresses are being made in ivory, less and less plain white.

do what you think looks best on you and with olive skin ivory would be the one

  11. I totally went with white, I'm very caucasian/rosy, so it looked good.

There's nothing wrong with ivory, as long as it's a pretty ivory, not a dull tone. I've seen ivory which looks pretty beige, and that doesn't look good.

Purity has nothing to do with it at all!

  12. I doesn't matter what color anymore, if I were you, I would go with the one that you love. Why settle for something you don't love, it's your big day! No one will think differently of you if you wore ivory. Mine was ivory, and I loved it. It didn't make a difference, because I was still marrying the love of my life.

  13. ivory is absolutely beautiful! but i say white if ur a virgin and  u were brought up as a christian and everything. but i see nothing wrong with ivory. its just a slight color change and if someone doesnt like it then to bad. its ur life and wedding.

  14. i say white.. because its more a tradition

but if ivory goes better on you.. i recomend you go for an ivory dress.... and snce you found an ivory dress you fell inlove with go for it... it's you special day and go with the one that suits you best!! :D

  15. go with your heart.

if you try on the dress and fall in love with it dont question it.

buy the dress and stop looking trust me. because i kept looking after i had bought a dress and kept having serious doubt when the dress was beautiful on me

go with your instincts and heart!

  16. Well if ivory makes your skin look more radiant then go for it, ivory isn't necessarily considered unpure, if it looks good on you then get it, you don't HAVE to get the traditional white gown unless you really want it.

  17. Ivory!!!!!!!

Its our choice what we want to get married in, theres no such thing as what tradition we should follow.

follow YOUR heart!!! go for what you want!!! I dont even think I will wear a white dress!!! :)

Ive seen people in red, blue and orange for crying out loud!! lol

go with what YOU want... it IS YOUR day! :D

  18. Ivory would be best with your hair color and complexion.   The old tale about white showing purity went away with the 1950's. A bride should wear what makes her glow on her special day. Besides. Every woman is a virgin on her wedding night! lol.

  19. everybody just does what they feel comfortable in, and other, more traditional, wear white for pure and ivory for impure, but now in this generation, it means nothing really to eachother.

just wear what you feel comfortable in :)

  20. If you look better in Ivory than in white go with the ivory. The whole 'white = purity' thing is way outdated and you shouldn't even worry about that. Picking your dress is all about your personal style and what looks good on you.

  21. I think you should wear whichever dress makes you feel the best, and don't worry about what the colour means!  People are straying from tradition more and more.  My dress was "diamond white" (not quite ivory, but not brilliant white) and I loved it!

  22. I usually dont like ivory, especially for a wedding dress, but after reading your question, it sounds like you have the same skin tone/hair color as me.  So i started thinking about the ivory on the olive/golden skin tone with darker brown hair (like what i have) and i have to admit, that would definitely look good.  I just don't like when fair/pale skinned girls wear ivory.  It definitely makes their face look washed out.  Go for the ivory.  You'll look amazing.

  23. i say go with the dress you love! wedding dresses are becoming more and more modern, and the old ideas about virgins wearing white is becoming outdated.

there may still be some older relatives who might think "gosh, that girl didn't wear white, she must be a w***e." but don't worry. personally, i would rather have a few old ladies talking about my sexual status for a few hours than a lifetime of wedding photos where i looked like the corpse bride!

i'm wearing white, but i have darker skin (i'm hebrew) and black hair. i like the contrast.  but, if i find THE dress in ivory i'm totally open to changing my mind!

  24. Just like you said, with your skin tone i can just imagine that the ivory would be much more pretty (DOESN'T mean you're unpure...people these days get married in all kind of different colors!) but make sure nothing else around you is white (flowers, bridesmaides dresses, tableclothes, etc. I would go with other colors that will complement that ivory!

  25. When my husband and I got married at the chamber of commerce last year, I wore an ivory strapless "sweetheart" dress.

This weekend, for our big church wedding with friends and family it is the full-on white dress. I've never had a white dress before. Maybe I've been brainwashed, but I always wanted one and am SO excited!!

People should wear whatever they like and that looks good on them. My friend just got married a couple of weeks ago, and she wore a black and white dress. It SO fits her!

  26. I am having a white dress, it's just a personal choice for me, I'm not big on the off white colors, sometimes I think they look more off yellow or dirty or something. I just like the pure white better on me! However, one of my friends that just got married last year had an ivory gown and I thought she looked AMAZING in it. In fact from most of the pictures I really thought it was white. So I guess there are a lot of shades of it then there use to be and I think it just depends on the person and their style, so I went with white! :)

  27. While white is tradition, you can wear whatever color you want!

Go with the ivory.  There are many shade of ivory.

Usually ivory/off white is for a 2nd marriage or more.  But again, as you said, it's 2008...Wear what YOU want.  And be happy.

  28. Uh, yeah I don't think most people look at the whole white or ivory dress debate as a virgin or not a virgin thing anymore. I think most people ARE open-minded about the color of the dress.

I chose white because I looked awesome in my dress. You're supposed to look awesome, so just go with what you look great in.

No one cares anymore and the whole virginal thing.

  29. I think you just answered your own question!  It's up to you - it's YOUR wedding.  You're entitled to wear whatever dress you please.  Even it's traditional white, ivory, or purple ... really, it's up to you.  If it makes you glow, then that's the one!  The perfect dress is the one that makes you feel like a bride, and from what you'd explained, this one is it. A dress isn't going to define your marriage, nor you, so [like you said], "it is 2008, it is time to be open minded!"  Have fun picking out a dress, and congratulations on your wedding!

  30. I don't really think that ivory would mean "unpure"

But I think that if ivory looks good on you then you should wear it. I personally thought I would would always wear a ivory dress instead because I also ou have olvie skin. And white just washes you out

  31. I tried on white and ivory, I look fine in both.  I happened to fall in love with a white one but I would definitely not have minded ivory, especially if it looked much better with my hair and skin tone.

I've seen lots of great dresses and I think the most interesting are the ivory, the champagne and even light pink.  Do what works best for you.
