Ivy League Round-Robins Central Championship 2011 to start – Fencing Update
Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton University Campus, New Jersey will see the Ivy League Round-Robins Championship 2011 scheduled for February 12. The two-day Championship will consist of both Men and Women fencers.
The Championship will be exciting as four of the top-eight ranked club squads are participating in this competitive fencing event.
In the Women’s side, the concept of the Round-Robins was started back in 1982. With the exception of two seasons, all have ended up as undefeated records. Thus, each match-up will hold a tremendous amount of importance during the Championships. The teams
will be competing to their maximum abilities for a chance to win the coveted Maestro Lajos Csizar Trophy.
Seven clubs are taking part in the event namely, Brown (Bears), Columbia (Lions), Cornell (Big Red), Harvard (Crimson), Penn (Quakes), Princeton (Tigers) and Yale (Bulldogs).
Women’s Team Preview:
Bears: This team will be looking to put in a tremendous performance as they will be striving to win their first ever Ivy title 2011.
Lions: This is the sixth ranked team and will be hoping to win their ninth title this year, after 2008.
Big Red: This team has received votes in the 2011 USFCA Coaches Poll. They will be look for their first ever Ivy title 2011.
Crimson: They are ranked as third and will strive to hold their fifth Ivy title after 2009.
Quakers: They are the eighth ranked team and will compete for their 11th Ivy title since 2004.
Tigers: The fourth ranked team will be hosting the event and will be striving to win two titles in a row since 2010 and will hope for their eleventh Ivy.
Bulldogs: This team has received votes in the 2011 USFCA Coaches Poll and will be looking to win their seventh Ivy after 2002.
The Men’s fencing Round-Robins will also commence at the Jadwin Gym where the teams would battle to hunt down the Gustavus T. Kirby Trophy at the end of the championship. On the Men’s side, this event is occurring since 1956 and a total of 73 champions have
been crowned in 55 seasons, out of which 13 ended up in a tie of the top spot.

Men’s Team Preview:
Bears: This team has received votes in the 2011 USFCA Coaches Poll. It will be their first ever Ivy title 2011.
Lions: This is the eighth ranked team and is looking to win their 35th title this year, after 2008.
Crimson: They are ranked as second and will be looking to hold their sixth Ivy title after 2007.
Quakers: They are the seventh ranked team and will be hoping to claim their 15th Ivy title since 2009.
Tigers: The sixth ranked team will be hosting the event and will be hoping to win two titles in a row since 2010. They will be striving for their 14th Ivy this year.
Bulldogs: This team has received votes in the 2011 USFCA Coaches Poll and will hope to win their fourth Ivy after 1996.
