Question:

Ivy problems?

This is the fist verigated ivy that I have ever had. And am having probelms with it. Some of the leave are dieing from the center out. It has no bugs on it and I keep the soil from being soaked and from drying out. I really would hate to loose it. It already had some long runners on it.

Any suggestions?

  1. Quaters your Ivy could have some root rot, this usually  comes from wrong soil mix resulting in poor drainage.  Do you have drainage holes in bottom of your pot?  If so I would try adding some sand to mixture.  This will improve drainage.

    Good Luck

  2. let it dry out between waterings!

  3. Depending on your location,  I would consider putting your Ivy outdoors,  as it is generally a very hardy plant.  It would be wise to acclimatise it to outdoors growth over a week or so.  Growing outdoors is going to give it greater amounts of light, allowing it to strengthen itself and encourage more growth.  Keep it in a reasonably sheltered spot to start with,  so that it doesn't get scorched by the sun etc.

Feed it with a slow release fertiliser too,  and infrequent drenchings with water, allowing it to dry out a little, would encourage its roots to develop more, thus supporting more foliage growth.

Your plant may have had some stress from its transit from a nursery, to the store, to your home, so this may just be a stress reaction - plants that have been stressed are then more susceptible to other problems, as they are inherently weaker.   It's difficult to tell exactly what is causing the leaves to die,  though ensure that there are no air pockets when your transplant plants, as these will be dry air pockets that roots will encounter, which will cause roots to dry out and die too.

Hope this helps.  Good luck!  Rob
