Ivys Star shines in A8 race at Romford
In every greyhound race, each of the six racers has an opportunity to shine and take the spotlight. Whether it’s a heavily-favoured contender with a great record, or a long shot looking
to earn a big victory, the stars always manage to come out at the right times at the many tracks across the country.
The stars certainly came out in this afternoon’s 400m races at Romford Greyhound Stadium. One such star was the aptly-named Ivys Star (3-1), who picked up a close victory. A great start
from trap four allowed him to hold an early pace. He later led the run in to make the victory his in 25.71. However, despite the excellent finish, Ivys Star was not the favourite to win this A8 race.
Hazeldene Poppy (5-1) challenged and crowded at third to lay claim on second place in 25.73. She was only a neck’s length behind the winner. Third place went to Limehouse Jake (3-1), whose
25.77 finish was a ½ length behind Hazeldene Poppy.
Aero Panesar, the 2-1 favourite to win this race, finished outside the top three in fourth place. He completed the race in 25.83, with only ¾ lengths separating him from third place. It
was a disappointing finish for the favourite, who has only two first-place finishes to his name thus far.
The fifth-place finisher was Alrita Jane, the 7-1 long shot. Her time of 25.97 was 1¾ lengths behind fourth place.  Finally, Pouldine Kiowa (5-2) locked up last place 1¼ lengths behind
Alrita Jane by finishing the race in 26.07. She crowded the run up, and baulked at second.
The A7 race featured joint favourites. Blanemore Boss and Addition were both billed as 11-4 favourites by the odds makers, but neither dog could earn the victory in this race. The win
went to Quivers King (3-1), who despite having baulked at first, led the run in to finish the race with a great time of 25.42.
Allowdale Magico (3-1) went very wide in this race, but ran on to finish in second place with a time of 25.52. This put him 1¼ lengths out of the top spot. Blanemore Boss, one of the joint
favourites, closed out the top three by taking third place by a head in 25.53.
In fourth place was Millies Mine (4-1), who bumped first and led to second. Her 25.56 finish put her a neck’s length behind third. Addition, the other joint favourite, subtracted himself
from a win with his fifth-place finish. His time of 25.60 was a ½ length behind Millies Mine. Placing last was Ballyridge Bound (9-2), who bumped first and finished in 25.76, 2 lengths out of fifth place.
Romford Greyhound Stadium will host a 13-race card tomorrow evening, with the races beginning at 19:30.
