  1. You have to understand that if her uncle, the Duke of Windsor hadn't abdicated the throne, her father wouldn't have been king and she wouldn't have inherited this position from him.

During WWII she was an ambulance driver and she helped unload the wounded  from the ships and transported them to the hospitals while serving in the Army. She was also trained to be a mechanic.

She may come across as cold and mean because we don't know her.But you have to face it that as the reigning monarch, she was trained not to show her true feelings in public.

  2. Dont forget she is quite old. She was born in a time when manners meant everything. It would be hard for her to be other than she is. Now, if Diana had been made Queen, well, what a difference. No snobbery there, no coldness, she shook hands with ordinary folk without the need for gloves for a start. Yes, our present Queen is what she is a Queen , not an ordinary person.

  3. The Queen may come across as cold and mean, but this is because she was instructed when she was young to never show emotion in public and it is an unwritten code in royalty. All of the royals of the past were told by their parents since they were young to not show any emotions in public, especially grief, as it might expose a weakness in the monarchy and could open a spot to enemies who spot that weakness.

People may unfairly judge the Queen and think she is a snob, when it is not her fault that she was born to a king and that she inherited from him close to a billion dollars from a bank account and estates. If she made statements likes "I'm better than you because I am the Queen" or things of that sort, I would understand why people think she is a snob, but she does not say things like that.

If you think Queen Elizabeth is mean, cold, and a snob, I can't imagine what you would think of monarchs like King Edward I, who concentrated his life on warfare and executing all of those people who disagreed with him by his own favourite method, hanging, drawing, and quartering, or King Henry VIII, who decapitated his wives because they would not produce a male heir for him.

  4. I agree with Edward.  If you're actually talking about ruling royalty.

The Queen Mother showed much emotion.  Not to mention the younger royalty.

Definitely not a snob though.  She might possess a sense of entitlement that might grate on some people but that is because she was raised that way.

  5. as the others have said .. she has a role to play . .and must come across as being dignified and stately .. BUT  there have been documentaries that have shown a far more candid side of Her Majesty .. she has come across in those as having a wickedly wonderful sense of humour and a genuine affection for her family ....

In her shoes . .many of us would be snobbier.
