Izamam-Ul-Haq, Aamer Sohail slam PCB for dropping http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314
Former captains Aamer Sohail and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383 have criticized the PCB for its recent decision to recall Mohammad Yousuf and drop Danish Kaneria, following Pakistan’s embarrassing defeat at the hands of England in the first test match. The unpredictable’s were outplayed by England’s seam attack as they tumbled to a total of 80 runs in the second innings of the first test match. This was Pakistan’s second biggest test defeat in terms of runs.
The PCB immediately after this defeat announced that Mohammad Yousuf will be sent to England to give the frail Pakistani batting line-up a push towards stability. The decision immediately caught media headlines and different experts were asked to give their point of views. The reaction was mixed from the general public, but former test players criticised the board for making such a hasty decision. The Pakistan Cricket Board has axed key leg-spinner Danish Kaneria on account of poor performances and has replaced him with a teenage left-arm spinner Raza Hassan. Mohammad Yousuf and Raza Hassan will join the test squad in the next few days, once their travelling arrangements are made.
Aamer Sohail labelled it as a “knee jerk” reaction. Sohail was especially critical about the treatment PCB handed to Danish Kaneria. “Pakistan cricket will further become a laughing stock with these haphazard decisions. I agree with what others are saying - Pakistan cricket has become a basket case. You don't treat a player like Kaneria in this manner," he said. “If he (Kaneria) was not performing, it was a failure of the coaching staff and casts doubt on their ability to help players.”
Sohail was also critical about Yousuf’s recent fitness and lack of domestic cricket. He said that Yousuf inclusion is controversial, since he retired after the Australian tour and has not played any cricket after that. Yousuf had retired from test cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2010, as a protest to a ban imposed on him by the PCB. It was during the last month that he once again showed his desire to play for the national team. Aamer also pointed out the difficulty Yousuf will face because of Ramadan, which will start in a week’s time.
Pakistan’s former Skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq was also very critical about the PCB and its decision. He said that it is because of the poor management of the board that has caused problems for the team. Inzi demanded that the board should provide longer runs to its players, if they want to achieve any results. He said that changing team players after every match badly affected the confidence of Pakistani players.
“In fact, it is all due to the mismanagement and ill-planning by the PCB which should first correct its direction. Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal could be sent at number three and four respectively while Azhar and Umar [Amin] should come later. I have no desire to join the team as batting coach, but many others have expressed their desire for that position. And therefore, the better one should be selected,” he suggested. The veteran batsman praised Pakistan’s bowling attack and labelled it one of the world’s best bowling attacks at the moment.
Former left-arm spinner and former Chief Selector Iqbal Qasim defended Danish Kaneria and blamed Kamran Akmal for the leg-spinner’s failure. He said that it was Kamran’s missed opportunity to stump Collingwood that didn’t allowed Kaneria to get his rhythm back on track. "Kaneria is the second-best leg-spinner produced by Pakistan, after Abdul Qadir," said Qasim. He termed Yousuf’s recall as “one of the biggest jokes”.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the four match test series and has won its first test match against Pakistan. Conditions in Headingley are likely to support seam bowling.
It will be a tough task for Mohammad Yousuf to answer his critics in such difficult batting conditions. One cannot write-off the potential of the veteran batsman since he averages around 50 runs in test cricket, while his average in England is around 65 runs.
