Iztok Utrosa beats Marcel Reuter in the qualifying round of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
Slovenia’s Iztok Utrosa displayed his strong and elevated skills as he defeated Marcel Reuter of Germany in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 at Mulheim, Germany, on Tuesday, February 28.
With this victory in the qualifying round, Iztok secured his place in Men’s Singles main round of the tournament.
Iztok played wonderful badminton against the German, who was having the support of local crowd, and bagged the match in three games by taking 49 minutes in the court.
In the first set, Iztok played good badminton but could not take a clear lead as his rival also played at the same level.
Until the interval in the first set, both players remained close on the score board.
After the break, Iztok put up better show and started to create gap by playing fast and positive badminton. He was fully focused and did not let his German rival to level the score.
Iztok remained in control and managed to take advantage in the match by winning the first set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, Reuter changed his strategy and played different badminton to tackle the aggression of his opponent. He kept the bird low and played attacking game to create pressure on his rival.
On the other hand, Iztok could not continue his winning run as he executed many negative strokes and remained struggling in the first half of the game.
After the break, the German remained positive throughout the second half as his rivals failed to play fast badminton. However, Iztok could not put up good show and lost the set with a huge margin of 13-21.
In the deciding set, both men played thrilling game as they remained close by keeping the pace of rallies at the maximum level. Until the break, the score was tight from both sides.
After the break, both shuttlers continued playing positive and aggressive game and reached at the concluding phase without taking any lead.
At this crucial stage, Iztok showed his brilliance and played a few fabulous shots which earned him ending points. He won the set with a tight score of 21-19.
Iztok won this Men’s Singles contest in 49 minutes with a margin of 21-17, 13-21 and 21-19.
