Izumi Kato captures Women’s 200m IM crown: Day two – 2011 World University Games
Day two of the 2011 World University Games ended with mouth shattering splash of Japanese swimmer, Kato Izumi in Shenzhen, China, on Monday, August 15.
The session of the race conducted the Women’s 200m IM final, where Kato hit the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 13.52 seconds to win the gold medal. While revealing her performance in the splash, Kato stated that she was really excited and contented with
her individual swim in the respective meet.
Meanwhile, Ra Hye Choi of Korea took home the silver crown of the meet by posting an impressive time of 2 minutes and 14.17 seconds, while Jing Liu of China captured the bronze medal in a time of 2 minutes and 14.39 seconds. In the corresponding race, Tomoyo
Fukuda of Japan was placed fourth in a time of 2 minutes and 14.78 seconds, whereas, Ganna Dzerkal of Ukraine wound up fifth by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 15.34 seconds.
Sophie Allen of Great Britain was placed sixth on the platform by posting a time of 2 minutes and 15.83 seconds, whereas, Duane Marce Rocha Da finished seventh in a time of 2 minutes and 16.16 seconds. Russia’s Anne Katheryn Meaklim earned eighth place honours
as she touched the finishing wall to end her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 16.60 seconds.
Earlier in the day, United States quartet of James Feigen, Timothy Phillips, Kohlton Norys and Robert Savulich won the Men’s 4x100m freestyle relay crown in a time of 3 minutes and 15.84 seconds. Brazil finished second in a time of 3 minutes and 17.30 seconds,
while France was placed third in a time of 3 minutes and 18.78 seconds.
Additionally, Lauren Boyle snagged the Women’s 400m freestyle crown of the meet in a time of 4 minutes and 07.78 seconds. Spain’s Melania Costa Schmid was placed second in a time of 4 minutes and 07.97 seconds, whereas, United States’ Stephanie Peacock rounded
out the top three in a time of 4 minutes and 10.25 seconds.
