Izumi Kato captures Women’s 200m IM gold: Day three - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Izumi Kato of Japan captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Saturday, June 16.
The Japanese swimmer went full rampant in the IM discipline and faced no trouble from her challengers in occupying gold medal of the discipline. She followed the lead of her strongest challenger, Stefania Pirozzi in the first half but with her astonishing
efforts, she managed to outperform her over the finishing wall for the title event.
She continued her scintillating form in the second half and paved her way to the top of podium for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.64 seconds.
She was trailed by Pirozzi, who stayed 1.60 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.24 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Erica Buratto of Italy, who remained 0.54 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 15.78 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Emilia Pikkarainen of Finland, who remained 1.01 seconds apart and finished her swim in fourth best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 16.79 seconds.
Pikkarainen was trailed by Camilla Dal Rio of Italy, who stayed nearly half a second apart and hit the finishing end with an effort 2 minutes and 17.18 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth spot of the race was secured by Katrine Soerensen of Denmark, who was 0.91 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 18.09 seconds.
Similarly, Marussia Pietrocola of Italy snared seventh position of the discipline as she made her way to the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.69 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was obtained by Susanna Negri of Italy, who remained almost three seconds apart and obtained eighth position of the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 22.31 seconds.
Kato was delighted with her astonishing pace in the 200m IM and said that she will try to make her country proud at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
