Izumi Katou pocketed Women’s 200m IM gold: Day four - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Izumi Katou pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day four of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday, April 5.
Katou smothered hopes of her supporters as she captured gold medal of the 200m discipline. With her invincible efforts, she remained almost full body length ahead of her strongest challenger and reached the medal rostrum for gold medal.
Katou stayed prominently ahead of her challengers and proved her mettle for top spot of the event by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.79 seconds.
Her invincible struggle was trailed by Miho Teramura, who reached the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 12.95 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by Emu Higuchi, who clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 13.81 seconds for bronze medal.
Her scintillating effort remained only 0.01 seconds faster from Asami Kitagawa, who settled on the finishing end for fourth position by producing a time of 2 minutes and 13.82 seconds.
Subsequently, Miyu Ohtsuka emerged as the fifth fastest finisher of the discipline as she clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 13.90 seconds.
Her effort was chased by Tomoyo Fukuda, who stayed almost two strokes slower and appeared on the finishing blockade as sixth position holder.
Fukuda remained 0.23 seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and transpired on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.13 seconds.
Fukuda was followed by Miho Takahashi, who stayed 1.42 seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.55 seconds for seventh position.
Takahashi was chased by her team-member, Yuka Kawano, who remained 0.40 seconds slower from her and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.95 seconds.
The session came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events whereas the position holders collected awards and accolades for their incredible swims at medal ceremony of the championship. Furthermore, the tournament will end on April 8 after the
completion of all events.
