Izumi Katou wins Women’s 200m IM gold: Day three – 2012 Japan Open, Tokyo
Izumi Katou won gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day three of the 2012 Japan Open in Tokyo on Sunday, May 27.
Katou faced no trouble from her opponents throughout the discipline and devastated hopes of her challengers by snaring gold medal of the discipline.
With her stupendous efforts, Katou faced no competition from her opponents and occupied gold medal of the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.57 seconds.
She was followed by Emu Higuchi, who stayed 1.23 seconds apart and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 13.80 seconds for silver medal of the discipline.
Higuchi was chased by Miyu Ootsuka, who was 0.12 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.92 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Rika Ohmoto, who stayed nearly 1.20 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 15.01 seconds.
Ohmoto was followed by Sakiko Shimizu, who remained 0.35 seconds apart and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 15.36 seconds for fifth position.
Next was the equivalent event in Men’s corner, where Kousuke Hagino stayed considerably strong over his opponents and stepped on the victory stand for the title of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 58.43 seconds.
Hagino was chased by Ken Takakuwa, who secured silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.29 seconds.
Takakuwa was trailed by Daiya Seto, who stayed nearly one body length behind and tapped the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.03 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Yuuya Horiata, who was 1.01 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 01.04 seconds.
Horiata was chased by Keita Sunama, who occupied fifth position of the 200m discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 01.73 seconds.
The position holders raked medals for their stupendous efforts in their respective events at the prize distribution while the championship ended after the conclusion of events.
