It’s not a big driveway about a 30’ – 40’ area. The area is not well lit at night.

  1. If you want one that hooks up by a cable and to a vcr to record you can get the whole set up at wal mart for around 80 dollars..if you want wireless that downloads the surveilence to your computer..expect to spend about 350.00

  2. Radio Shack

  3. I used Astak night vision wireless cmos cameras that transmit through your electrical wiring and do not need special cables run. I got them at Future Shop for around $70.00 CDN. They are X10 technology over house wiring. They just need power outlet.

  4. I'm not fully into the technicalities of this - but we have Vivotek IP cameras covering the front and the rear of our house - one wired and two are wireless. I leave the techie bit to my beloved...men know about these things! The cameras are installed inside the house at two upstairs and one downstairs window and they operate on movement detection whenever anything crosses the 'boundaries/comes into the trigger windows' which we have set. These are actually at the perimeter of our property - you have to be careful not to capture too many images - I'll explain why in a mo!!. Every time the boundary is crossed the camera sends three images to an email account (before, during and after detection of the perimeter line being crossed). Of course you need a PC (and wi-fi if you want wireless cameras). The beauty of this system is that you can monitor what's going on from anywhere in the world - simply by logging onto your email account. You can also access directly via its IP adddress whatever the camera is actually seeing at any time....nice to check on the weather at home when you're away! The downside can be literally hundreds of emails - such as when we were having some building work done recently! But it's easy to set whatever times you want covered in such a scenario. It takes some setting up - for example light reflection can trigger the cameras - so on a sunny day it can be a bit sensitive but well worth it for the peace of mind!! As for an unlit driveway - I'm not sure. We have PIR outside lights - which in themselves are a deterrant so I'd suggest you intall these anyhow. The dealer below is very helpful.

If you need any more info. I'll have to ask the Boss when he gets home this evening!! I reckon you'd get a camera (wireless) for about £125 or so.
