J.B. Holmes is confident to shine at Northern Trust Open
After having brain surgery last summer, J.B. Holmes is getting his health back at a faster pace, with further improvements in his game.
Holmes played 16 total events in 2011. However, during the PGA Championship in August, he suffered from headaches and a severe pain in his brain.
He had to withdraw from the event, as he was unable to perform on the course.
"I thought it was an ear infection, or that I was tired," Holmes said. "But after hitting some balls, my body wasn't bouncing back. I was still dizzy, then started getting headaches. It became clear this was not just an ear infection".
Due to the vertigo symptoms for several months and structural defects in the cerebellum, he underwent the surgery on September 1, 2011. However, his surgery was not successful completely.
During the surgery, he got allergic to the use of adhesive and again went through surgery a month later. Going through two surgeries in a year is the reason for his poor performance.
He returned this year at Farmers Insurance Open, but was unable to make the cut.
Then he played the Waste Management Phoenix Open and secured the 45th position by scoring a 3-under par and 281 stokes in total.
Holmes was also in the field of AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, but again lost the cut in the third round.
Now, he is confident and feeling better than before. He will be teeing off on Thursday at Northern Trust Open.
"I still don't have my speed swing back, but I really like this golf course," Holmes further said. "You can really swing here more than other places, and it's set more for a fade — which I play — on key holes".
Before the start of this season, he was only planning to make the cut in every tournament but only managed to achieve his goals at Phoenix Open.
His improvements and recovery may help him at the Riviera Country Club. The four-day tournament is very crucial for him.
If he wants to prove his recovery, then he has to make the cut impressively.
Holmes' main focus at Pacific Palisades should be to make the cut and stand throughout the tournament. If he does so, it will help him in the upcoming PGA tournaments to perform well and finish among the top players on the list.
