J.B. Holmes tied at the 8th position at the Reno Tahoe Open
J.B. Holmes has not had the best of seasons so far, but he has a golden opportunity to turn around his fortunes this year at Reno Tahoe Open.
So far Holmes has managed to make numerous cuts this year and his final results are very promising. His best result in terms of money earned was at the Memorial tournament when he finished T13.
At Reno Tahoe Open, Holmes is decently poised for the final two rounds. Holmes is currently sitting with 18 points just 6 behind the leader, Rocha.
Reno Tahoe Open is using the Stableford scoring system, this system has been implemented on the PGA tour for the first time since 2006. This form of scoring encourages struggling players to turn things in their favour at every hole.
This system is basically designed in a way that the more birdies and eagles one registers, the more points one gets. This scoring is very tricky because as much an 8 point deficit can be covered going into the last hole.
This format, like many others playing in the event, suits Holmes’ style of playing. He is one of the big hitters around the tour. At the end of round two, he was tied at T8 with Hunter Haas.
Haas too is one of big hitters and he also finished round two with 8 points, taking his overall score to 18.
J.B. Holmes fired the best round of the day with 17 points. Holmes could only manage one point in the first round but his magnificent second means that he is right in contention for the title at Reno Tahoe Open.
The golf course suits aggressive play as well, as it provides numerous birdie opportunities. All the par five holes can be overcome in just two shots. This is really amazing, as it gives the players quite a few eagle chances.
Alexandre Rocha of Brazil is currently leading the tournament with 24 points, following him is J.J. Henry with 22 points.
The Brazilian has never won on the PGA Tour and the way he is playing, there is no doubt that he will bag the first PGA title of his career.
