J C’s Pride on the road to recovery after incurring an ankle related injury in the Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga
The Robert Barbara trained 2-year-old colt, J C’s Pride, was pulled up and eventually vanned off in the Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga on dirt on 5 September, 2011.
The first thing after the race that trainer Robert Barbara told was that J C’s Pride cut one of his front legs during the race, but otherwise he appears to be fine. Later it was found that the juvenile colt is recovering from an ankle injury.
It was the case of rapping himself on the outside of his ankle in the early stages of the race, probably coming out of the gate in the Grade 1 Hopeful.
The injury was recognized by jockey Jose Lezcano, when J C’S Pride started to drift out after suffering the injury and was pulled up by the jockey midway through the race.
Trainer Robert Barbara hopes that his speedy colt recovers quickly from his ankle injury and get back on the track, because the trainer might have some mouth watering encounters for his juvenile colt.
J C’S Pride sent as the second betting choice in the Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga, because J C’s Pride broke his maiden in emphatic style when he set a Saratoga track record for five furlongs, covered the distance in record breaking time of 56.54 seconds.
The son of Henny Hughes, out of Hi Lili by Silver Deputy, J C’s Pride attempted to break his maiden at Belmont Park’s dirt course on 1 July, 2011, where he was edged out skillfully by another impressive 2-year-old colt Overdriven.
His connections opted Saratoga for his next maiden stakes race, and the colt did not disappoint as he romped past win the five furlong dash on 27 July, 2011, to become eligible to run in the Grade 1 Hopeful.
J C’s Pride ankle injury is now coming on fine, with the swelling diminishing, the colt might be back on the track in no time but he still has a sensitive area which needs to heel up properly for a quick return to the races.
Trainer Robert Barbara has no immediate plans for his colt, but the Nashua being cut back in distance from a mile to six furlongs, could interest Barbara a lot more than before.
However, it looks unlikely because the race will commence on 2 October, it might be the question whether there is enough time to make it to the race or not.
