J J For Dave should have an easy trip in the Sir Barton Stakes at Woodbine
Ian Black trained J J For Dave has a huge opportunity to land his first stakes race, after the older Ontario-sired ranks have become depleted at this stage of the Woodbine Meet. J J For Dave is pointed toward $125,000 Sir Barton Stakes to be held at Woodbine
on 30 November, 2011.
The son of Whiskey Wisdom nearly captured his first stakes win back in June when he ran in the Steady Growth race over the Woodbine’s synthetic surface at about 1 1/16 miles under J Stein.
J J For Dave set a moderate pace throughout the race, and in the end when it got a little demanding, J J For Dave couldn’t cash in on all the good work he had done and lost out to the heavily favoured and a Canadian champion, Sand Cove by a nose.
“That was a huge race,” trainer Ian Black said. “I’m not sure if Sand Cove was as good as he used to be, but it was still a very good race.”
On 3 September, 2011, J J For Dave stepped down in class when he participated in an allowance race at Woodbine also at 1 1/16 miles on synthetic surface.
J J For Dave co-existing with his regular jockey J Stein in irons came off the pace to overhaul Casual Dude and Sky of Grey to cover the distance in 1 minute and 44.13 seconds.
Massively cut down in distance in his next start, J J For Dave went at about seven furlong in the Overskate Stakes but found the distance too short for him as his come back from behind effort was ill timed as he finished fifth on the day under new jockey
R Dos Ramos.
Gypsy Ring took the spoils and went on to complete the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 21.54 seconds, as Paso Doble, Race for Gold finished second and third, respectively.
J J For Dave is coming off a 3rd place finish in a 1 1/16 mile long allowance claimer to winner Lord of Greatness who covered the distance in 1 minute and 44.92 seconds.
