J.J. Henry and Brandt Jobe in lead: Live leaderboard of Wells Fargo Championship
Wells Fargo Championship, carrying a purse of $6.5-million, has kicked off at the par-72 Quail Hallow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The tournament is the last stop on the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour before the Players Championship, which
is the fifth flagship event on the Tour.
Here is brief view of the leaderboard on the first day of the tournament, currently in progress.
J.J. Henry and Brandt Jobe are currently sitting in the top section of the leaderboard after two holes. Henry teed off from the front and birdied the par-3, second for a quick start. Meanwhile, Jobe found the fairway without much hassle on the first hole
and wedged his way to the green, hitting it in regulation. This left him with an easy approach shot towards the cup for a birdie.
A total of 13 players are tied at the third spot of the leaderboard with a score at par. The group includes John Senden from Australia and Garrett Willis from United States. The duo teed off from the back and failed in picking up a point. Both players experienced
trouble in driving accuracy, which ultimately left them with two-putts on the green.
Brenden Steele, who won the Valero Texas Open two weeks back, is also sitting at par after facing the failure to find the fairways with the tee shot.
Six players are already out of the realms of par within the first three holes. The list includes Rory McIlroy, Martin Laird, Charles Howell III, Chad Collins and David Duval.
McIlroy, who has been left alone by the lady luck stepped onto the back nine with a big smile, but just after the first hole, he was left groaning over the driver. The Northern Irishman drove the ball into the bunker on the fairway and had to move up and
down in order to reach the green to save par. But to his luck, he could not save it and finished with the first bogey of the day.
Meanwhile, Laird, the winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational chose to tee off from the front, but could not create a much different scorecard that of McIlroy. The Scottish player bogeyed the opening hole on the front and made his position dangerous in
the eyes of the spectators, who covered miles to watch him tee off.
