J.J. Redick wants to stay in Orlando although chances are that he will be traded – NBA News
When the Orlando Magic made the decision to trade their All Star centre and franchise player Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, they knew they were in for a long restructuring effort. As the first move in that effort, they
picked up young talent and draft picks from each of the other three teams involved in the four team affair. But Orlando have many more deals to make and players to sign and develop before they can return to the level they were on when Howard was at his peak,
and perhaps even better.
The Magic still have their veteran shooting guard, J.J Redick, signed to the team. The team decided to opt for the team offer on his contract last season for $6 million, which means that he will play for them at the start of the
season and will be training with the team during training camp.
However, Redick is a veteran and a very good trade tool for the Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan. In the final year of his contract, Redick would make a good trade option in exchange for younger blood or draft picks. The player
himself wants to stay with the franchise and made his intentions open during a recent interview with the Magic official team site.
“I love playing here and I love playing for Orlando. I love representing our fans and our city. But I understand it’s a transition year for our organization. I’ve had conversations with Rob and we’re both on the same page with
my future going forward. I’ve given him my commitment that as long as I’m in Orlando and wearing a Magic uniform that I’m going to be a pro and give everything like I always have. He knows that and respects that and we’ll be fine,” said Redick.
Even when talking about wanting to stay in Orlando, Redick seemed like he knew he was going to be traded sometime soon. There is a strong likelihood that Orlando will trade him before the trade deadline in March. But Redick need
not worry as he will be a free agent come summer and based on his experience and skills as a backup guard, will be able to find a new gig quite easily.
