J Murtagh has the chance to ride Dubawi Gold at the Qipco Champion Stakes with Richard Hughes riding d**k Turpin
It is not only the horses making news for the Qipco British Champion Stakes at the Ascot on Saturday rather it is also the prospective riding jockeys that are now onto getting famous and some are also voicing opinions on their choices about their favourite
rides.
J Murtagh is anxious to ride the three-year-old Dubawi Gold trained by Richard Hannon. The pair has ridden before and thus do share a comfort level while on the track. Last the two were seen riding at the Newbury on 13th August this season when
Dubawi Gold stood fourth in the race.
"Johnny knows the horse well, though, and has a good relationship with Andrew. There's also Ryan Moore waiting in the wings, so we're in a good position”.
Dubawi Gold’s option for J Murtagh has come up because Richard Hughes has already been booked for d**k Turpin who belongs to the same stable.
"At the moment Richard is veering towards d**k Turpin, which is understandable on official ratings. But if he does ride d**k Turpin, there are naturally other top jockeys available”, said Tim Jones, racing manager for the haulage magnate.
Dubawi Gold has been quite busy this season with eight runs out of which he has three wins and two seconds under his belt. Both the jockeys, J Murtagh and Richard Hughes have parked Dubawi Gold fourth in their last races with him.
Dubawi Gold geared up almost as soon as he was out from the stall. He stayed in touch with the rest of the lot and then shot ahead but did not find the track clear for the final two upcoming furlongs. It took him a good one furlong to settle himself with
the rail, on the left hand side. He did get close to the lot qualifying for the first three positions but could not reach close enough to the winner.
The connections seem equally rather maybe more concerned about how Frankel would be performing at the race this time and have even predicted that if he races with his signature style then it would be the runner up position for Dubawi Gold.
The way Dubawi Gold plays on the big day would be a mix of the ride he gets, competition that he faces and how he handles the prevailing conditions on the track while racing at the Qipco British Champion Stakes at the Ascot.
