J.P. Arencibia’s three run homer helps Toronto Blue Jays clinch a thriller – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell will be very pleased with the way things have gone for his team since the start of this season. The Blue Jays were one of the most successful teams during the Spring Training Session and they executed their tactics
to perfection to floor even the best in the business including Detroit Tigers.
Blue Jays’ catcher, who seemed to be having tough time behind the plate, produced a magical performance in the sixteenth as his three run home run sealed victory for his team. For the Indians, Justin Masterson put up a dominant show, allowing just two hits
in eight solid innings. The way the Blue Jays bounced back in the ninth would certainly give Farrell a reason to think the season could be the one they have been waiting for.
Toronto’s pitcher Luis Perez displayed some high quality pitching skills as he tossed four scoreless innings. Sergio Santos also made a useful contribution, striking out two to end the game that lasted for 5 hours and 14 minutes.
"For some reason, I thought I got the bunt sign," Arencibia said. "That got me in two strikes. Then I was just trying to hit the ball. I happened to hit it hard and got it out of the park. He high-fived me and said, 'Great job, you missed a sign.”
"I don't think I was too pumped up," Perez said. "I was rushing, definitely, especially when stuff started getting sticky."
"I guess we got in the record books," said Masterson. "That's something. Who started it? That's a trivia question."
Not many would have predicted that the Blue Jays will win their opener in such a dramatic fashion. In their first regular season game against Cleveland Indians, the Blue Jays put up a brave fight in the longest opening day game in history of Major League
Baseball.
The Indians made an aggressive start to the contest. Exploiting the conditions absolutely brilliantly, the Indians raced to a 4-0 lead. It looked as if the Indians will cruise to an easy win but the Blue Jays had other ideas. Indians’ closer Chris Perez
had a horrible time on the mound, allowing the Blue Jays to score three runs in the ninth inning to tie the score at 4-4.
