J.R. Smith happy with where he is at the moment – NBA News
J.R. Smith is one NBA player who does not believe in reserving his comments, no matter how far-fetched they might seem at that point.
Smith, who was re-signed by the New York Knicks in the summer for a two year contract after playing last season for them as a backup shooting guard, said during the free agency that if the Knicks matched Houston’s offer for Jeremy
Lin, some players in the locker room might not like it since Lin does not deserve that much money.
The winger then said that he liked the additions in the Knicks roster over the summer and fancied their chances in the upcoming NBA season. Smith later upped the ante when he guaranteed that the Knicks would win an NBA championship
next season a few weeks ago.
And the most recent of comments by Smith come regarding his contract with the Knicks. Smith was running a basketball clinic with his brother, Chris Smith, at the Monroe Sports Center in New Jersey recently when Josh Newman of Zagsblog
asked some questions.
Smith has said publicly that he had more money offered to him, but in the end, liked being home and liked playing for the Knicks. He ultimately signed a two-year contract with the second year being a player option.
"I think anything is a bargain with me, whether I'm playing for a dollar or $20 million it's a bargain because I'm going to play hard no matter what," Smith told SNY.tv. "No matter how much I get paid, it will never affect how
hard I play and I think that should be thought about when people see me next year," reported Newman.
The 6 ft 6 in and 8 year pro in NBA can get carried away sometimes but he is a real talent on the floor. Considering the minutes he played last season, Smith had some good performances for the Knicks which convinced them to offer
him a two year contract extension which will see him earning $2.8 million.
Although Smith completely failed during the playoff series against the Miami Heat last season where he shot 31.6 percent from the floor, he brings a great deal of energy off the bench and can score quick points.
