J.R. Smith is coming back to New York Knicks next season – NBA Update
As soon as the NBA season came to end, there had been rumours about J.R. Smith`s exit from the Big Apple. However he has decided to put an end to all speculation and has agreed to return to the New York Knicks
for the coming season.
According to reports, Smith has agreed to sign a two year deal worth $2.8 million with the dynamics of the contract being drawn in such a way that after the end of next season, he has the option of choosing a
player option to stay with the Knicks.
Smith was very happy with his decision and had nothing but praise about the team, he had been played with late last season;
"I have decided to re-sign with the Knicks. I just felt that, despite my other options, New York is the best situation for me," - Smith said "Coach (Mike) Woodson showed a lot of faith and trust in me last season,
as did (Knicks owner) Mr. (James) Dolan and the organization.”
"My teammates are great to play with and New York fans are the best. I can't wait to get started."
After spending the whole of last season, coming off the bench, there have been rumours that Smith will get the starting nod at the shooting guard position next season. Knicks can also benefit highly from this
decision as they will have Smith’s bird rights for next season and can match any offer made for him, even if he chooses to not opt for the player option.
The addition of Smith is just one in the list of moves the Knicks have made heading into the next season. They recently agreed to bring in Jason Kidd, have re-signed Steve Novak and now by getting back Smith,
are looking substantially strong for next season. The Knicks are also expected to match the Houston Rockets offer on Jeremy Lin and according to latest reports; they have also hired the services of veteran centre Marcus Camby.
The only major change they are looking at next season comes in the shape of Landry Fields, who has reached a verbal agreement with the Toronto Raptors.
