JBWere Masters arrives in Victoria
IMG, the group, which is coordinating the event of JBWere Masters at Victoria Golf Club claims that best golfer of Australia will tee off on November 11th to mark the end of the PGA tour of Australasia.
The event carrying a purse of $1.35 million will be featuring names like Robert Allenby, Sergio Garcia and Geoff Ogilvy. All four veterans are ranked in top 15 of the Official World Golf Rankings, which gives way to the notion that serious drama will be witnessed in Victoria.
Tiger Woods will be stepping on the course as a defending champion. Australian Masters is the last event left in the schedule of the former world number one. In the current year, the champion has lost all his titles, including the number one ranking. Moreover, he has been winless in the season, which means if Tiger fails to set a mark here, he will proceed in the next year as a failure for the first time in 14 years. Tiger does not want that, therefore, he has added this event on his circuit.
He will be facing a stellar cast from Australia including names like Stuart Appleby, Greg Chalmers and Aaron Baddeley. Moreover, the sponsors have added two exemptions in the event to bring variety to the event, Jin Jeong and Matt Jager.  Both the golfers are amateur, but they surely know how to give a good competition to veterans around them. Jeong, who hails from South Korea, is the 2010 British Amateur champion and silver medallist at The Open Championship.
On the other hand, Matt Jager is the reigning Australian Amateur Stroke Play Champion, winner of the 2010 Australian Championship and winner of New Zealand Amateur Championship.
The Minister for Tourism, Tim Holding told the press, “Melbourne is home to some of the world’s best golf courses. We are thrilled to welcome Tiger Woods back and we know that the JBWere Masters will be another massive boost to tourism and to Victoria’s reputation for holding world class sporting events.”
The event has been inaugurated after its success in Kingston last year. Vice President, David Rollo said, “The 2009 JBWere Masters set a new benchmark for Australian golf. The tournament attracted record crowds and television audiences while delivering in excess of $34 million to the Victorian economy. In addition to the outstanding support of the Victorian Government and our naming rights partner JBWere, the event has also attracted the strongest commercial programme in the history of the Masters. Associate Partners Cussons Imperial Leather and News Limited are joined by Crown Melbourne who have extended their partnership with the event through 2011 and will be the presenting partner of the Gala Dinner.”
Moreover, he disclosed that the Hyundai Motor Company will join them as the official partners of the event that will take place the following year.
Apart from JBWere, which is the official partner of the event, the Australian Masters is being sponsored by the following; Nikon, Strategic Aviation, Telstra Big Pond, Tag Heuer, The Langham Melbourne, Coopers 62, Drummond Golf, Amadio Wines and Titleist.
This is it for the news that states that a press conference took place in Victoria on Wednesday, which included all the sponsors of the event. The tournament will kick off on 11th November and will stretch until 14th of the month at the Victoria Golf Club, Australia. Tiger Woods will defend his title; whereas, golfers like Geoff Ogilvy will tee off to add another victory in their bag.
