JC Aragone defeats Mate Pavic in Boys’ Singles opening round – US Open 2011

An upset result in the opening round of the Boys’ Singles, as the eighth seeded Croatian contestant Mate Pavic crashed out of the US Open at the hands of the unseeded JC Aragone of the United States on Monday afternoon.
The contest took place on Court 14 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, of Queens, New York City, United States, with Aragone winning the three-setter in a convincing manner. The American
closed out the contest with the final scores of 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, taking 82 minutes of play to make it to the second round of the Grand Slam tournament.
The eighth seeded Croat was off to a flying start in the opener and absolutely blew away his opponent to get the early advantage in the matchup but failed to sustain momentum in the later sets to allow Aragone back in business.
The American regrouped immediately and dropped just four games in the following two sets to conclude an assertive victory in the end.
Aragone delivered 68 per cent of his serve on target and coughed four double faults in the game but reeled off 36 out of 52 first serve points to come out as the winner in the end. Pavic fired eight aces in the match with his 55
per cent serve and cracked in three out of nine break points, while suffered five out of nine break point conversions from his opponent to lose the matchup.
Pavic raced to a 4-0 lead in the opener, nailing two consecutive break points to the American serve and went on to close out the first set at 6-2 to get one up in the contest. Tide turned in the following set, with a dominating
display of power hitting from Aragone, who broke in to a 3-0 lead straight away in the second set. The American kept pressing Pavic to commit unforced errors in the game and pinched in another crucial serve break in the sixth game to wrap up the second set
at 6-1, levelling the matchup with one set a piece.
The slump continued for the Croat competitor in the final set as well, with Aragone breaking him in the very first game to lead 2-0. Pavic made his last attempt to break the shackles in the eighth game but Aragone broke his serve
again in the next set to conclude victory at 6-3 to book a match with the unseeded German, Robin Kern, in the second round of the tournament.
