After he was shot the second time, why did Jacqueline Kennedy climb onto the back of the limousine?

they both were always in the back seat. after he was shot, she was trying to help a secret service agent into the car over the trunk.

When she heard the sound of leaking air, being afterall the first lady, she sprang into action and dove towards the trunk to grab the tire jack...thinking it was a failing tire....
