Question:

JL Audio Subs + Cheap Amp?

I just purchased 2 12" SVC JL Audio W1v2's and have been looking everywhere for a budget amp that will handle something around 600 rms (the total rms of the two subs) from $150 to $250. I've been to nearly every site trying to find such an amp with a subsonic filter, seeing as I've built my own ported box tuned to ~32 Hz , to protect the subs from over-excursion. I have the subs wired parallel to a 2-ohm load, so I need some sort of mono (preferably Class D) amp. The only one that I'm feeling comfortable with right now is the Profile AP1000M which will put about 250 RMS to each of the subs. The main question I have is that although the amp is pretty decently matched with the subs (don't worry I won't clip it), will the cheapness of Profile amps affect my subs? Will the amp even truly put out the 500 RMS x 1 @ 2 ohms it states or are Profiles usely overrated? If you think I shouldnt go with this amp please leave some other suggestions. Thanks.

  1. try this amp. http://www.millionbuy.com/tmat5001.html go to JL audio website and check the info on these amps

  2. Just curious by the brand decision.  Are you looking at Cructchfield for the amp?

There are a few amps on there that will work at about $200 that are CEA-compliant and will run around 500W RMS at 2 ohm.  Might want to look at the Alpine MRP-M500 or an Eclipse XA1000.  Both are CEA-compliant and worth a shot long before a Profile amp.  Spending an additional $40 is worth reputable brands, even though Profile has been in Crutchfield's lineup for quite some time.
