JOB INTERVIEW: How do I sell a product?

Question

I have a job interview at best buy, and they MIGHT make me role-play and sell a product (most likely a digital camera since its the department im applying for) so can any give me any tips/strategies on seling that product?

Sales interview answers to the "Sell me this product" question should clearly show your ability to uncover the customer's needs and wants, to select key features of the product and to sell the benefits of these features to the customer.

Sell benefits, not features.

Do some research in advance on cameras so you have an idea of what types are available and what selling features are for each type.

Go into a competiting store and check out the way salespeople are selling cameras( speciallty stores are better).

Do some research on retail selling and how to be good at it ( there are plenty of books in the library).

The best tip I could give you is to ask the person wanting to buy the camera (your interviewer) lots of questions as to "why" they want to buy a camera in the first place.

Then use that information to highlight the features that they wanted in the first place.

Ex:  If they are looking to purchase a camera because they're having a new baby coming into the family for example, then focus on how easy it will be to grab the camera and take a quick photo to get those precious moments captured.  Or talk about how easy the camera is to set up and run right out of the box...etc.

It goes without saying that you need to know the product but beyond that, find out what the person wants the product for first, and then use that information.  Remember that people buy on emotion not logic.  Be Dr. Phil, not Mr. Spock.
