http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742 sees a three way battle for South Africa’s captaincy
Star South African batsman, JP Duminy, has hinted that the One Day International (ODI) captaincy may go to the current Twenty20 skipper of the team, Johan Botha. However, he said that Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers will also be likely candidates for the
job.
According to Duminy, “There are a few contenders. Hashim Amla, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. All three of them have the potential to be great
leaders.”
The left-handed batsman was unsure of the new coach, saying, “We haven't yet seen who the (next) coach is. There are definitely going to be big changes but exciting nevertheless. It hasn't been announced that Johan (Botha) is going to be the ODI captain
yet. He is our T20 captain. I have worked under him in a couple of games. He is an exceptional leader.”
Veteran all-rounder, Jacques Kallis, was not in contention of being the skipper, as the board was focusing on the future. The 35-year-old is not likely to be a part of the team in the next World Cup, which will be co-hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in
2015.
There were also rumours that former Proteas opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527, will take over as the team’s new coach. However, Duminy stated that the legendary player was apparently not interested in the job, as he wanted to give time to his family.
Kirsten proved to be a very successful coach for India, as he guided the team to a number of achievements. The Men in Blue jumped up positions in the ICC Test match rankings to take the number one spot and also performed with consistency in limited-over
cricket.
The biggest achievement for Kirsten was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s triumph in the ICC World Cup 2011, after which he resigned from the job.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) will be hoping that Kirsten can achieve the same results for his national side, if he gets selected as the team’s coach.
The South African team has been unable to get rid of the “chokers” tag after their inability to perform under pressure situations.
