  1. You'll most likely be challenged by the defense as part of voir doir, (sp), you'll be assumed to be bias because of the facts of the crime(s).

  2. The best way is to stand up and tell them if a student attacks a teacher then there should be a mandatory death penalty. End of being on the jury.

  3. Typically the judge will ask you if you can imagine any reaason why you could not be fair and impartial.  If you have any concerns that is the time to say it.  Seriously I have to imagine the defense attorney will remove you very quickly--you are too close to the situation and could be thinking "that could have been me."

  4. The defense would strike you as a juror right off the bat b/c you are a teacher.  They assume you would empathize with the teacher's family and not consider if there were extenuating circumstances with the perpetrator (not of sound mind, etc).

I got excused from a jury pool in the case of a guy who flashed several young girls and eventually kidnapped and raped one.  I had to disclose that my daughter had been molested when she was barely 3 years old. They asked if I had completely dealt with what we went through, if I thought justice has been done in my case, and if I could be impartial. I said I'd dealt with it and could be impartial, but wasnt' sure if justice had been done.  I was excused. I think they didn't want me to intentionally or unintentionally try to find their guy guilty as a way to find some form of justice for my daughter's case.
