ok so i started snowboarding a couple of days ago and i am going again tomorrow night.

i have lessons for 6 weeks every tuesday. after those my mom is going to get me a private lesson just to do a 1 on 1 to improve the skills i developed.

- we started with skating and im ok at that, its kind of hard tho cause im small and i have trouble getting up hills.

- we worked on toeside and heelside turns and im better at heelside but im kind of having trouble with my toeside when im slowing down you know when you switch the board around, cause you are going backwards and im afraid to dig my edge in there.

- on my first straight run i did not fall and i was pretty happy.

- on my first heelside run i didn't fall either.

- on my first toeside i wiped out.

- then i kind of had a series of falling because i either don't dig my edge in enough or i dig it into hard, i can't find a happy medium

- my WORST problem is, right as i start going down the hill i go way too fast!

  1. You pretty much just described my first few times on a snowboard.  You've definitely go a lot of lessons lined up so you should be in good shape. Just stick with it and keep practicing. You'll be surprised at how quickly it comes to you. Good luck.

  2. Good on you for the lessons!  You just need to keep them up.  I found that it was easiest to learn the turns by just going really slowly into them.

To start off going slower .. don't start pointing straight down the hill!  Go on an angle and just slide along your toe/heel edge across it and open the angle deeper and deeper as you get more confortable.

  3. faster is more fun

  4. Keep up the practice... you'll get it.

    Good Luck!!

  5. I just learned how to snowboard myself over Christmas Break. The toeside turn was the hardest thing for me to learn as well and took me a day and a half to really get it down. How much have you worked on leafing while on your toeside edge? You might try working on that so that you have a feel for controlling that edge while turning. Also, make sure you're putting your weight on your front foot, leaning slightly forward with your knees and hips, and if need be push with your back leg to finish out the turn. Do this all at slow speeds until you get the hang of it. Sounds like you've almost got it all together. Good luck!
