JUmbo250 floppy tape drive installation

Question

I wd like to know how to connect the drive. The drive has to be at the end of the floppy cable? And the red thread on the flat cable inwards on the same side as the red power thread? what about adaptors to the *other* type of
floppy connectors? Very difficult to see whether there are pins outside of the cable female receptor. What about jumpers? And how to install the s/w then in order to recognize the drive? I had an external model before,it broke.
On starting, I get the error message "floppy(s) fail {error}(40)".
