Question:

JV Vball tryouts...how much running?

OK i'm going to be a freshman and im thinking about trying out for jv vball for my school and i was wondering how much running you usually have to do (from ur experience) at the beginnning of tryouts b/c im a really bad runner and i get tired out easily b/c of my asthma. i can do about 5 or 6 laps around the gym (sad i know)

  1. well I go to volleyball training sessions and we dont run too much be we do run a little at the end to keep us in shape. Mainly we do mountain climbers and 30 second jumps to build leg strength. Good Luck and Have Fun Trying Out!


  2. talk to your coach about your asthma. youre still going to run but she hopefully wont lessen your chances about making jv just because you cant run. in my school, our coach was really nice and she had us do a lot of cardio, not in the form of runnung everytime though. take a jog everyday after school, for a certain distance then push yourself to go farther everday.

  3. In volleyball you do your share of running especially when you make it to varsity. Since you have asthma you probably have to work a little harder. Just because you have asthma doesn't mean that you can't run well. Just do a little bit of jogging for one week. The following week do a little more. By the 3rd week start increasing the jogs into mini sprints. Start picking up your pace as the weeks go by. You have to be on top of this. You can't slack off or the work you put in will all go to waste. Believe me.  Also eat well. Eating the right foods can make a humongo difference. Good luck in your training and tryouts.

  4. i don't know bout your school but for my school to make any sport team you have to run a mile under 7-8 minutes. and after you make the team you run like a mile n half to a mile every day of practice.

  5. Well for my volleyball tryouts, everyone tries out together. This made it really intense because then everybody does the varsity drills and conditioning, etc. You will really need to get in shape because high school volleyball and middle school volleyball are totally different. You will need to get really fit in order to even make the team. You should be able to sprint continuously for at least 5 minutes. Volleyball definitely requires no long distance running, but a lot of sprints and you need to be able to get to places very fast, especially if you are a middle blocker,a libero, or a setter. So if you can just practice running up and down your drive way gradually increasing the time each day. Also do laps up and down the driveway by doing lunges and other strength training activities becuase they also look at this. Lastly, they will want to see how high and how long you can jump, so practice doing block jumps against a wall and jumping roping or jump over a small cone or line for as long as you can.Hope this helps and good luck!

  6. it really all depends on your school and the coach, AND the team. i was on my teams JV team last year, and we had to run up and down our big school hill (about a mile, mile and a half total) as fast as we could. however, we only did that about 4 times. most of the running you do is sprints, or lines (run to 10 foot line, back to serving line, to other 10 foot line, to serving line, to the other serving line, and back to the first serving line). talk to your coach about your asthma. you will need to work a bit harder, but you can do it. i have asthma as well. good luck

  9. hi a was the captain of my high school team last year so from my experience the only MAJOR running is at the beginning of the season just trying to get everyone into shape. I honestly suggest trying to run around you track at least 4-5 laps. that should equal a mile. My high school had a mandatory mile time of 8 minutes. showing your coach that you are willing to put your self out there and try your hardest will definitely be a decision factor. But most of all do not complain but if your asthma becomes a problem let your coach know and maybe you can work some other running scenario out!! Best of Luck!
