Question:

JV to Varsity(H2O polo)?

I am currently a freshman and play on the JV water polo team at my school. I do not like my coach and it is my goal to make Varsity next year as a sophmore. I am sprinter for JV and one of the top players. Any tips for promoting up to varsity so I can get away from my immature/mean coach. (I understand if I play Varsity I can't be sprinter anymore.)

Thanks!

  1. work hard at practice. Show the coaches that you are varsity material.  A good help would be attending a water polo camp.  That would improve your skills a lot.  Also if you have a water polo club in your area, join it!  You could learn a lot, and be a better player.

  2. um dont you keep the smae coach? i know we do at my high school

  3. Keep working hard at practice.  Usually the varsity coach keeps an eye on the JV players so he can consider who he wants on the team next year.  Even if you don't notice him watching, he probably is....

Also, consider playing polo over the summer before the season starts.  In my area there are a lot of club teams for water polo so I play over the summer.  That means I'm in water polo shape when the season - and tryouts - start.  I'm a junior, so I've been through 3 tryouts and it really makes a difference if you practiced over the summer or not.

It also depends on what kind of players the varsity team will need next year.  If there are a lot of seniors this year, there'll probably be more openings on the varsity next year.  The team might need a new goalie, 2m/set player, or outside player.  It totally varies from team to team.

Anyway, hope I helped and good luck next year!  Remember, practice, practice, practice!
