I want to put my JVC camcorder mini DV tape onto my computer. The model number is GR-d770U. It came with a USB but I believe that it says it will only transfer the SD picture files? It this correct? I REALLY need to edit this quickly and the VHS c**p is not working :(

  1. ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer video using their DV port - not their USB port. Yes, USB is used only for transferring stills off the memory card. Your computer needs a firewire (also known as IEEE1394a) port. They are typically easy to install. No, the manufacturers typically do not include a firewire cable in the box.

Refer to page 41 of the instruction manual:

    http://books.jvcservice.com/booklist.asp...

Under "Connecting to a personal computer: Using a DV cable"... By the way, once you get the firewire port working on your computer and plug the camera in with the firewire cable, you do not nee their software. MovieMaker is bundled with Windows; iMovie is bundled with Macintosh. No camera specific drivers are required.
