I was wondering, is there any possible way to take the videos from my ridiculous out of date camcorder and turn them into a DVD? Any place I could go? I don't want to spend a ton of money, but the videos are family videos that mean a lot to me. THe only way I can currently view them is by hooking the camcorder up to my TV through various ports or placing the small tape into a larger VHS tape especially made for the camcorder videos (sorry to be confusing). I think what the camcorder records onto are Panasonic SHG tapes..they are like fat audio tapes. So...any ideas would be appreciated...and I will soon get a new DVD camcorder!

  1. Get an analog converter. It will cost about 70.00 but it's worht the money. Then you can do it yourself. I have the dazzle and it came with some good software. You would connect your VCR/or camera to the dazzle and then the dazzle to your PC.  You will lose some quality when converting analog to digital/DVD.

You can also check with your cable company, they usually do conversion.

  2. Some modern camcorders have an analog-to-digital pass-thru...this will allow you to connect your old camcorder to your computer (through the new camcorder). Once you can get a digital signal to your computer you can do the rest.

Also, consider getting a hard-drive based camcorder...I have a DVD-based one and hate it.

  3. the local photoshop might be able to help.

    hope that helps

  4. You can hook it up to your tv then maybe get a new camcorder with good quality and record the Tv, I think it should work or else there would be no such thing as p****y.

  5. The far and away EASIEST solution is to buy a DVD recorder. Hook up to it just like you do with your TV. And record away.

I know. I converted 100+ VHS tapes to DVD this way.

  6. PLEASE DO NOT GET A DVD BASED CAMCORDER. The video is compressed a LOT and the resulting vide for editing is poor.

To transfer the analog video from your JVC VHS-C camcorder, you will need the AV cable that came with the camcorder - the same cable you use to connect to the TV - and use an analog/digital bridge.

If your computer has a firewire port,

The ADVC55 or 110 is all you need.

If your computer has only USB,

The camcorder connects to the A/D bridge, the bridge connects to your computer, import, edit, burn to DVD...

Windows will use MovieMaker for import/capture/edit, then WinDVD for menuing and rendering the DVD. Apple Macintosh will use iMovie for importing and editing and iDVD for for menuing and rendering the DVD.

PLEASE DO NOT GET A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.

Since miniDV tape provides for best available video, I do not recommend internal hard drive or flash memory based camcorders. They are an acceptable alternative, but cannot provide the best video quality because they compress the video to store on their media more than the compression used to store onto miniDV tape. They do not compress as much as DVD based camcorders. DVD based camcorders should be removed from the market and the manufacturers should recall all that were sold and refund everyone's money.

Some camcorders have an A/V pass-through function that can do the job of the A/D bridge... Sony DCR-HC96 is an example.

PLEASE DO NOT GET A DVD BASED CAMCORDER.
