JVC HD camcorders and FinalCut?

Using a HD camcorder from JVC for shooting.. It saves the files with the extention (.TOD).. It causes too much troubles when importing the files to FinalCut, it stops responding and had to restart.. I got to the way to convert every single file to mpeg before importing them to FinalCut, but it takes too much time.. There should be easier way to do it.. Has anyone out there got a similar experince with JVC HD cameras and FinalCut? Any advices?

  1. I have a video camera made by JVC that saves files in a proprietary format as well.  If you ask me, it's ridiculous and i won't be purchasing another JVC cam unless I know they save their files in a standard format.

Unfortunately as far as I know, you're hooped.  I spent days looking and I could not find a simple way to convert these files without doing two conversions to get to one format.

To todd vis below.  $300 and up for an upgrade?  $2,495 for the software package standalone?  Come on...you wanna buy it for me?

  2. There are several video editors from Avid which support Everio .mod files (.mod .moi .tod)  directly, create unified MPEG-2 file.
