Question:

JV|Freshman Cross Country?

On my school's athletic website it only displays the varsity girls and their meets and what not and says nothing about JV or Freshman, I am a freshman so I am unsure whether they even have those teams but don't recognize them because they're insignificant or if they only have Varsity and I'm not that great..so I would definitely wish not to be on Varsity when Jenny Berringer (Olympic track star, she's in Beijing right now) was on the team and have to overexert myself to limits I cannot behold..

what do you think?

  1. Most likely, you will compete in most the meets listed off for the varsity girls.

Most small meets (which occur during the week, and have less than 5 schools) will just run all the girls at once, regardless if they are varsity, JV, or what.

The bigger weekend meets will break it up, with the breaks depending on the size/intensity of the meet.

To get an exact answer, just ask your coach though.

    Good luck.

  2. in most (i don't want to say all, but almost all) schools, cross country is an open sport. i know because i'm not that good, either :)

varsity does get all the attention, though. but jv is a good opportunity to improve your skills and have a chance to be on varsity.

go on the first day of practice and then you'll at least have a chance to try out if there isn't a jv team. i doubt they wouldn't have a jv team at all...like i said, xc usually is an open sport.

    have fun this season :)

  3. at my school there isn't really a jv team. it is a walk on sport so no one gets cut from the team. my coach just gives us workouts based on our skill level, but there is always a few girls at the same level. the top 5 score so those i guess are "varsity" but it is technically all varsity just like track and swimming. well, thats how it is in my district. good luck! :)
