JaMarcus Russell arrested for possession of codeine
Troubled quarterback JaMarcus Russell has been arrested at his home in Alabama and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
The 24-year-old was charged with possession of codeine syrup and was booked into the city jail and later released on a $2500 bond. Russell was arrested as part of an undercover drugs investigation. Mobile County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles refused to say what led to Russell’s arrest but did say the former Oakland Raiders quarterback didn’t have a valid prescription for the codeine.
Oakland released Russell in May, paying him $36.4million, and he is considered to be the biggest ever draft bust. In 25 starts as an NFL pro he won just seven games, completing just 52.1% of his passes. He has 18 career touchdowns, 23 interceptions, 15 lost fumbles and a career passer rating of 65.2.
