JaVale McGee reaches out to new fan base in Denver through twitter – NBA News
JaVale McGee was not one of the most famous sports personalities in Washington last season, and during the few years he played for teh Wizards. A few mistakes on the basketball floor had McGee on the low end of fan appreciation
and support.
He was traded to the Denver Nuggets during the season, where fans seemed more open hearted and welcoming. And now that McGee has signed a contract extension with the Nuggets worth big bucks, he is learning from his mistakes and
trying to develop a strong bond with his new fan base.
Mile High Sports has reported that McGee gave an open invitation to his fans on twitter to join him for a burrito at chipotle, adding that the first 10 fans would receive a free meal from him. It was a good gesture to personally
interact with the fan base of the franchise with whom he has been signed for the foreseeable future. However, it did not turn out as he expected.
“McGee posted on his official twitter page today: “1st 10 people who meet me at chipotle in 5 mins get free meals! #OMM the one in Denver on 16th!”. It appears only one person showed to McGee’s burrito party, posting this picture
with fan Andy Mathisen,” reported Mile high Sports.
McGee did not get a good response to his effort, but remained committed to developing a relationship with the Denver fan base. On Tuesday, McGee once again posted on twitter that the first ten people to meet him at ‘Noodles and
Company’ would get free meals from him. This time around, he got a better response, as evident from his twitter account.
Whether it was the fact that the fans in Denver do not like burrito or something else, the fact is that McGee continued with his effort is worth appreciating. And apparently, the fans of Denver did so too by giving him a much better
response the next time around.
All the off-court social interactions aside, McGee will have a make or break year with the Nuggets next season. He has the height and the talent of a big man, but needs to prove that he can play to his potential if he wants an
extensive and successful career in the NBA.
