JaVale McGee receives praise from NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon – NBA News
JaVale McGee is one of those NBA players who has the skills and talent to be a dominant force in the NBA, but has not yet lived up to his true potential.
The 7 foot centre is four years deep in the NBA, and has received a lot of praise from people who have seen his practice and play close up. But the seven footer has not been able to make any impact through his game on the floor.
McGee was selected as a member of the preliminary roster for the U.S team that was going to play in the 2010 FIBA world championship. Although he did not make the final cut, he received a lot of praises from some of the best players
in the NBA, who were playing on that team.
McGee averaged 11.9 points and 8.8 rebounds in 41 games for the Washington Wizards last season, but they still traded him to the Denver Nuggets in the middle of the season. He played 20 games for the Nuggets, out of which he started
in only 5. His numbers and playing time dropped in Denver, where he averaged 10.3 points, 5.8 rebound and 1.6 blocks.
Still, McGee possesses physical talent that is rare in the NBA. He can rebound and block shots easily, and has the height to make him a valuable and rare entity in the NBA.
The player has been training with Hall of Fame centre Hakeem Olajuwon in the summer in Houston, and like many others, Olajuwon is impressed with the talent and physical ability that McGee brings to the table.
“No question, I see him as another star. That guy should dominate the league. He has tremendous talent. I give him all these moves and he can finish and he’s already skilled. So now just show him how to use that skill to (get)
to the next level,” said Olajuwon while talking to FOX 26 Sports.
McGee will begin next year with the Denver Nuggets, his first full season with the team. He has a great coach in George Karl and a promising team that is eager to rise in the ranks. Now with Andre Iguodala part of the roster as
well, the Nuggets are looking forward to successful 2012-2013 campaign.
McGee needs to show that he can part of that team and help it achieve its objectives. This may be the season that either makes his career, or the one that cements his status as an average role playing backup, from which it will
be very hard for him to return.
