JaVale McGee wants to extend his contract with Denver Nuggets - NBA Update
After being traded to Denver Nuggets by the Washington Wizards midway through last season, JaVale McGee had one thing in his mind, to impress at his new franchise. The seven-footer managed to pretty much do that
in the first round of playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers and now that he will be a free agent this summer, he has shown his intent to stay put;
“(Playing for the Nuggets) was the best experience I've ever had in basketball,” McGee said after the last game. “It's just an honour to be a part of this team. This was a great team before I came, so I just
tried to add to it. It's a great organization and coaching staff. They put me in more situations that were more suitable for my game.”
Competing for the 1st time in playoffs, McGee didn’t miss a chance to impress. The towering centre was up against the Lakers twin towers - Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, but still managed to hold his
own. He was just sensational in Game-5, hammering 21 points to go with 14 boards and 2 blocks.
His performance paved way for a 102-99 Nuggets victory and took the series to Game-6.  The series finally ended for the Nuggets in seven games, but they did find a star in the making. Nuggets Executive Vice President
of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri recently went public with the franchise’s desire to hold on to McGee.
McGee, 24, was drafted by Washington Wizards in 2008 and has evolved as a decent post player, at least on the D. He still requires a lot of improvement in developing his low post game, but if ever there was a
coach to guide him in this regard, it is George Karl. The only problem that would stand between him and his contract extension is the Nuggets salary cap.

The franchise has already signed long term contracts with Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari. Ty Lawson is all set to get a mega contract after this season’s performance and that leaves McGee with not a lot
at the financial end
