Jack Bobridge and Cameron to represent Australia in 2012 London Olympics – Cycling News
Jack Bobridge, Cameron and Travis Meyer have all managed to find their place in Green Edge as team has signed their first three Australian cyclists for the coming season. Length of the contract is unclear but general manager of the team Shane Bannan has
made it clear that cyclists have been signed for longer period and is hopeful that this Australian team will be able to secure a Pro Tour licence at the end of the year.
Selection of cyclists have been made on the basis of their performance in the previous seasons as Cameron was amongst the first 10 cyclists in the time trial tour of three weeks and he has done it twice during the Giro ‘d Italia. Jack on the other hand has
been the Under-23 time trial champion for 2009. Bannan stated that, this kind of performance is not something everyone can do and hence, both have been selected to represent Australia in the London Olympics, 2012 as he said, “Cameron and Jack are going to
play a big role in Australia’s success on the track at the Olympics and have already proven their quality on the road.”
The third youngster that has made in to the squad is Travis Meyer who at the moment is recovering from an injury. His record before the injury is terrific as he has won the junior world titles five times on the track and the Australian road title in his
first season. “And Travis was making big gains over the past 12 months before injury got the better of him. We know his recovery is in good hands and a minor step down doesn’t change how talented he is,” as Bannan briefed.
He mentioned that the time he spent at the Australian Institute of Sport, he had the opportunity to work with a number of Australian cyclists that have now been recognised by the world. In the same way, Bannan is hopeful that the three new cyclists will
be the future stars and their inclusion in the squad will be very helpful as they are at the start of their career and will be on top of their game for some time.
